US will put in up to $105.5 million to support America’s continued leadership in energy innovation through solar technology.
The US Department of Energy will fund about 70 projects to advance both solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) technologies, as well as facilitate the secure integration of those technologies into the nation’s electricity grid.
The funding will also support efforts that prepare the workforce for the solar industry’s future needs. “Investing in all of our abundant energy sources, including solar technologies, will help to drive down costs and ensure that the nation leads the world in energy production and innovation,” said Secretary Rick Perry.
This funding announcement will further the Trump Administration’s goals to drive economic and technological leadership in solar energy by supporting innovative research that improves energy choice and affordability.
The research projects will address the earliest stages of technology development, enable significant improvements to the current fleet of solar technologies, and maintain US leadership in solar energy, said a DoE release.
