The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday termed as ‘purely speculative,’ reports that it has confirmed BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s role in the gangrape of a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district.
In a statement issued here, the CBI said media reports suggesting that it has confirmed Sengar’s role in the gangrape were ‘purely speculative’.
”The agency has so far not submitted its conclusion in the case,” the CBI said.
Reports in some sections of the media earlier on Friday claimed that the investigating agency has found the charges levelled against Sengar, correct.
The reports stated that CBI, during its probe, found serious lapses on part of the police in handling the case. It alleged that police acted in connivance with the accused and thus, no action was initiated against the accused MLA.
The case was handed over to CBI after the Uttar Pradesh government came under criticism from various quarters for allowing its MLA to roam free, despite facing serious charges.
