A Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) was launched at Balhama, Khanmoh, in the city outskirts on Thursday, after a group of militants attacked a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohammad Anwar Khan and tried to snatch weapons from his two Personnel Security Officers (PSO).
However, the PSOs repulsed the attack, they said adding militants opened fire in which a PSO identified as Bilal Ahmad was injured who was hospitalised. Khan escaped unhurt in the attack, sources told UNI.
However, when the security forces were conducting searches in the area, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, they said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter. Additional security forces were rushed and entire area was sealed to foil any militant attempt to escape.
In the wee hours bodies of two militants were recovered near the encounter site, they said adding their identity was being ascertained. A CRPF jawan was also injured in the encounter, they said adding his condition is stable.
