Two buildings collapse in Odhav, 1 dead, 5 rescued

Around 1 dead, 5 rescued  under debris after two buildings of a government housing scheme collapsed in the Odhav area of Ahmedabad. 5 people has been rescued from the fallen blocks.   Number 23 and 24 which are situated in Jeevan Jyot Society near gurudwara in Odhav and built under the Aawas Yojna. The flats were built in 1999, sources said.
This building collapsed at about 8pm on Sunday night.Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja along with officials reached the spot in the night to take stock of the situation.
Sources said AMC had already sent a notice to the occupants to leave the building but the residents were still looking for other places to stay when the incident took place. Some of them had to be forced out of the premises, sources said.
According to source,  1 dead, 5 rescued till morning  today.  Eight teams from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) were present at the spot, attempting to rescue people.
Yesterday, MF Dastoor, Chief Fire Officer of AFES, said, “Two blocks of the government housing society have collapsed and we are attempting to reduce people. Around 10 people are expected to be under the rubble and we have rescued two of them.”
