At list 6 people were killed after the Tiware dam in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra breached causing a flood-like situation in seven villages.
While the six bodies have been found and over 20 people have been reported missing.
The capacity of the dam is 0.08 TMC. At least 12 houses in the village adjacent to the dam have been washed away. Rescue operation is underway. A team of 5 BN NDRF has been sent to Tiware dam for rescue operation. Pune’s National Disaster Response Force team is also heading towards Ratnagiri district.
Civil administration, police, and volunteers are working at site. The incessant rains have brought Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra on its knees as Mumbai received record breaking volume of rain in last 24 hours.
Minimam 35 people were killed across the state while 23 died in Mumbai alone in various accidents caused by the torrential downpour.
A wall collapsed in Malad on Tuesday, killing 23 people and injuring 78 others. The wall fell on tin huts behind it, trapping many under the debris for several hours.
The rainfall in the 24-hour period before 8.30 am Tuesday was the highest since the July 26, 2005 deluge in Mumbai, officials said.
