Tit for Tat : Congress poses same questions to Modi on falling Rupee as he posed to Manmohan Singh

Amid the constantly falling value of the rupee vis-a-vis dollar, the Congress on Friday posed the same questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as had been posed by him to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson RPN Singh said, ‘in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Mr Modi used to make fun of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by comparing the falling value of rupee vis-a-vis dollars with his age. He also claimed that when the BJP comes to power, they would bring the value of the dollar down to Rs 40.

The value of the rupee now is far worse compared to that during the UPA rule and the state of the economy is also a matter of concern. Therefore the Congress poses the same questions to Mr Modi and ask him to respond to them.’

Mr Singh said that Mr Modi used to cite corruption as the main cause for the falling value of the Rupee. Now, he should respond what is the reason for the falling value of the rupee today.

‘He should also respond why the value of the rupee is falling in comparison to various international currencies,’ Mr Singh said.

He said that during the Prime Ministership of Mr Modi, who talked of bringing back all the Black Money from the Swiss banks, there has been a 50 per cent increase in the amount of black money in Swiss banks.

‘The banks have lost thousands of crore of rupees, something which has happened for the first time in 70 years. The non performing assets of banks have increased to Rs ten lakh crores. As per the estimates of the Reserve Bank of India, the NPAs will increase to Rs 15 lakh crores in the next two years.

The PM should tell the country the reason for the present situation,’ Mr Singh said.
