As per Centre’s inaugural ‘Ease of Living Index’, no city from Gujarat features in the Top 10 national list where Pune, Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai were ranked top 3 respectively while the national capital ranked 65 out of total 111 cities that participated.
Among Gujarat cities, Surat achieved rank 19, Ahmedabad 23, Vadodara 36, Rajkot 38, Gandhinagar 39 and Dahod 79. Ahmedabad stood at 23rd position, overall, in the national list. The list has thrown up mixed results when it comes to our city. It ranked fifth in transportation and mobility and stood seventh when it came to quality of effective institutions and governance. On the flip side, it stood at 73rd position in healthcare infrastructure and 60th in education facilities. On the face of it, with vibrant medical tourism and educational institutes, the city should have scored much higher on healthcare and education indicators.
While Dahod stood at 32nd position nationally, Ahmedabad stood at 45th rank. The economic category threw up interesting results with Rajkot topping among Gujarat cities at rank 15, followed by Dahod (32), Vadodara (42), Ahmedabad (45), Surat (69) and Gandhinagar (107).
Even in the social category, which monitors availability and accessibility of education and healthcare facilities, Rajkot (33) and Dahod (44) ranked better than Ahmedabad (53) followed by Vadodara (54), Gandhinagar (55) and Surat (57).
