Smartphone sales through Amazon is growing by 50 per cent Year-on-Year in India, Amazon India Category Leader-Smartphones & Consumer Electronics Nishant Sardana said on Thursday.
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Nishant said that the smartphone was one of the largest industry in India and growing at very high base as well. In smart phone sales, India market occupies number two position in the world with the sale of 145 million in every year after China and was growing by 15 per cent Year-on-Year, he said.
Thirty eight per cent of the smartphones (four out of 10) were sold in India through online, Mr Nishant said and added that overall Amazon sales was growing 50 per cent in India as well in Telangana.
“Despite 40 per cent of smartphone market being on online, Amazon was still growing by 50 per cent which mean more customers are preferring to make e-commerce purchase (online). It proves the testimony to the kind of trust on online platform which created by the Amazon”, he said.
“ One out of 10 smartphones in India get sold on Amazon”, he added. Mr Nishant said that the Telangana is the one among the 10 largest states in terms of purchase of smartphones through Amazon.
Mr Nishant hoped to witness 1.5 to 2 time more sales during the festive season which starts from October this year as compared to last year. “ 61 per cent of smartphone sales through Amazon is below Rs 10,000”, he said.
“ In terms of demand, Redmi 5, OnePlus6, Realme 1, Honor 7X, Moto G5s Plus are the most popular products in Telangana state. Some of the top brands purchased from the category in Telangana include Mi, OnePlus, Motorola, Samsung, Honor. In Hyderabad, Mi, OnePlus, Motorola, Samsung and Realme are the most popular smartphone brands amongst consumers”, Mr Nishant added.
