The rupee on Wednesday depreciated by 19 paise to 67.26 to hit fresh 15 month low against the US dollar on sustained demand for the American currency from importers and banker, forex dealer said.
Stromg Dollar against other currencies overseas, as crude oil prices zoomed past USD76 per barrel level and pushed Treasury yields higher after US President Donald Trump pulled out from the international nuclear deal with Iran, hit the rupee sentiments, the dealer said.
However positive close in the domestic equity markets capped come losses. The domestic unit opened weak by 30 paise at 67.37 at the inter bank foreign exchange market today. A major fluctuation was seen during the day it registered day’s high and low at 66.48 and 67.23, respectively.
Yesterday, the rupee gained Six paise to 67.07 against the US currency on suspected RBI intervention and stray dollar demand.
