Karnataka is witnessing a record number of 15.2 lakh first time voters in the age group of 18-19 years and a city restaurant Group has come up with an attractive offer of feasting them with a Masala Dosa and a Coffee without any cost as inducement for them to turn out for casting their franchise in the tomorrow’s Assembly elections.
The famous Nisarga Hotel in the city has come up with the offer for first time voters. A spokesperson from the hotel said on Friday that this was to highlight the importance of voting in a democratic set up.
‘’All they have to do is to show their finger which has indelible ink mark on it and prove that they are first time voters. Other voters who promptly vote need not be disappointed. Anyone who visits our hotel after voting will get a cup of filter coffee for free,’’ he said.
Similarly the office of the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has been organizing a number of programmes to ensure higher percentage of voting. The CEO office had been encouraging youngsters to stage street plays with prominent actors coming on the streets and educating voters.
The Election Commission has roped prominent public figures like Bharata Ratna CNR Rao, former Team India skipper Rahul Dravid, cine star Ramesh Aravind and others to tell the people importance of voting.
Such programmes are focused on the tech hub of Bengaluru which routinely records lower percentage of voting.
