Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are officially engaged. A few minutes back, the information popped up on our social media feed, and we were more than happy to read it. The couple exchanged rings in a Phool Muddi ceremony (a traditional Konkani engagement ceremony). And guess what, the first picture from their sangeet ceremony is out as well.
Singer Harshadeep Kaur who performed at #DeepVeer’s sangeet ceremony shared the picture on her Instagram handle all the way from Lake Como, Italy. But, here’s a catch too. Kaur did not share a pic of Ranveer-Deepika, but one with hubby Mankeet Singh, who has accompanied her.
While we are yet to get our hands on the pictures (which Deepika and Ranveer are making sure we don’t get it easily), here’s how the Phool Muddi ceremony would have taken place. As per the Konkani traditions, the couple sits down for a pooja followed by the exchange of rings. Sounds pretty usual right? Well there is a difference here.
In the Phool Muddi ceremony (which translates to flower ring) takes place a day before the wedding day or in the morning of the wedding date. Deepika and Ranveer have chosen to schedule it a day before their D-Day. In the ceremony, special poojas are held, there is an exchange of turmeric powder and coconuts, the groom is escorted from his home followed by the bride-to-be’s father washes his feet and puts a ring on his finger.
