Rahul to sound the bugle for 2019 Lok Sabha polls with ‘Jan Aakrosh eally in Delhi on Sunday

Sounding the bugle for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Rahul Gandhi will address a ‘Jan Aakrosh rally’ in Delhi on Sunday to attack the Narendra Modi government on its alleged misgovernance, corruption, scams, increasing violence against women and dilution of SC/ST Act.

The rally, to be held at Ramlila Maidan, will be the first public rally by Mr Gandhi in the national capital after assuming the post of party president.
Addressing reporters ahead of the rally, AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot said the objective of the rally is to voice resentment of all sections of society towards the Modi government’s policies.

”For the first time in the country after Independence, there is a feeling of resentment among all sections of society towards the government, be it the poor, adults, women farmers or minorities. That is why we have called it the ‘Jan Aakrosh rally’.

There is a never seen before atmosphere of hate and fear in the country. The promises made by Mr Modi during election remain unfulfilled. Through this rally, we are voicing the sentiments of the people of the country,” Mr Gehlot said.

Addressing reporters ahead of the rally, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said the rally was being organised by the Congress to voice resentment of farmers for not getting the adequate remuneration for their produce, the anger of women and dalits on the increasing incidents of violence against them, the outcry of the common man on the rising prices of essential commodities and anger over corruption happening under the nose of the government be it the scam in the deal for Rafale fighter jets, the Vyapam scam or the bank frauds happening in the country.

”The entire India is outraged today due to corruption, bank scams, Rafale scam, cabinet ministers’ scams, the destruction of small and medium businesses, rising unemployment, rising atrocities on dalits and adivasis and on the multi pronged attack on judiciary.

Congress as the principle opposition party has taken responsibility to amplify these issues through this rally,” Mr Surjewala said.

He said the rally would be a clarion call by Mr Gandhi to the people of the country.

”A historic clarion call will be given by Mr Gandhi to people of the country which will pan out across the country and which will lead to uprooting the BJP from power and lead to a decisive victory for the Congress in the May 12 Karnataka assembly elections. It will culminate in uprooting Mr Modi in the 2919 Lok Sabha polls,” Mr Surjewala said.

He said it is a historic rally which will witness participation of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, chairperson of the Congress parliamentary party Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, PCC presidents and party MPs of both houses.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken said that around one and a half lakh to two lakh Congress workers are expected to participate in the rally which will be attended by several top leaders of the country.

”Full preparations have been made for the Jan Aakrosh Rally to be addressed by Mr Gandhi. Delhi will sound the bugle for Rahul Ji’s triumphant journey to the 2019 parliamentary elections,” Mr Maken said.

He said 14 water dispensing stalls will be setup for the rally taking into consideration the prevailing hot weather. Mr Maken said proper arrangements would also be made for the parking of vehicles coming from Delhi and outstation areas, and various committees have been formed, who have been meeting regularly.
