Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday held a meeting with senior party leaders to discuss the strategy for the Budget session of Parliament, which commences on January 29.
Party sources said that the meeting, attended by Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, discussed ways to attack the government on issues like the current economic situation, the issue of farmers distress, the Rafale fighter aircraft deal, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill as well as the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill.
The Budget session of parliament will commence on January 29 with the President’s address to the joint session of both Houses of Parliament. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present the Budget 2018 for the fiscal year 2018-19 on February 1. The session will end on April 6.
While first part of the session will be held till February 9, the second party of the Budget session will be held from March 5 till April 6.
The Union government has called an all-party meet on January 28 to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings in both Houses of parliament during the Budget Session.
The meeting will be chaired by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and will seek opposition’s support as the Centre is seeking the smooth passage of controversial bills like the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill as well as the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill.
