Padmaavat ‘s strong run at the box office continues with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film earning a Rs 115-cr at the box office in India in its opening weekend, trade sources said on Monday.

Despite multiplexes in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Goa not screening the film due to protests and Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar seeing a limited release, the film has seen a huge jump in its earnings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
While it earned Rs 32-cr on Republic day on Friday, it earned around Rs 28-cr on Saturday. The film earned around Rs 19-cr from across India on its opening day on Thursday.
With the film continuing to draw huge crowds at the theatres , trade experts feel ‘Padmaavat ‘ could well cross the Rs 150-cr mark at the end of its first week.
Trade experts say the film has taken a good opening overseas as well. ‘Padmaavat’ has been performing impressively in the US and Canada.
The Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer has earned nearly 1.20-million US dollars on the opening day in US and Canada, which is an all-time record.
Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, ‘Padmaavat ‘ is based on the poem Padmavat, written by a 16th-century poet, Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
It tells the tale of the beautiful Rani Padmini of Chittor, and how she avoided falling into the clutches of Turkish invader, Alauddin Khilji, by committing self-immolation or Jauhar.
The film has been embroiled in a controversy with the Rajput Karni Sena protesting release of the film, charging Bhansali of distorting history.
