One person was killed and another injured after being hit by a snow avalanche in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a police spokesman said here on Thursday.
He said two youths, identified as 25-year-old Abdul Aziz Beigh and Haleem Beigh (23), both residents of Malangam, came under a huge snow avalanche at Hassangam-Malangam under the jurisdiction of Tulail, Bandipora on Wednesday. However, immediately operation was launched and both the youths were rescued late last night.
The injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tulail, where Aziz Beigh succumbed. Meanwhile, there was no trace of three persons, who came under a huge snow avalanche in the frontier district of Kupwara a week ago.
Despite massive search operation conducted by various agencies, including the Army, police, SDRF and locals, the missing persons, identified as Ghulam Mohammad Lone, Mohammad Altaf , both residents of Warnow and Bashir Ahmad, , resident of Dardipora Lalpora, came under snow avalanche at Gochibal Behak under the jurisdiction of police station Lalpora, District Kupwara could not be traced.
In the first week of January, 11 people, including an officer of Border Roads Organisation (BR), were killed after being swept away by a snow avalanche at Sadhna top in Kupwara district.
Two foreign skiers were killed in two different snow avalanches at famed ski resort of Gulmarg this month.
