NIA gets 15 days custody of 2 accused in Bodh Gaya terror case

The National Investigation Agency on Friday last arrested two accused Abdul Karim and Mustafizur from Malappuram in Kerala in connection with the planting of IED at Bodh Gaya complex on January 19 this year, an official release said here on Monday.

The two accused Karim and Mustafizur who are resident of Murshidabad and Birbhum respectively were arrested from Labour Camp of Bengali speaking persons in Malappuram district where they had been hiding subsequent to planting of IEDs at Bodh Gaya.

Searches were conducted at the hideouts of these two accused and incriminating material including circuit design of IED has been recovered by the NIA team.

The Bodh Gaya terror case was handed over to NIA on the behest of Union Home Ministry and the probe agency on February 3 re-registered a case under sections of IPC, UA(P)A, Explosive Substance Act and Weapons of Mass Destruction and Delivery System to investigate the recovery & explosion of IED near “Kalchakra Maidan”, Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

Section of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Delivery System was for the first time imposed by any investigation agency here in India.

During investigation of the case, identity of 10 accused persons has been established so far who were involved in this conspiracy and on April 3, three accused Ahmad Ali alias Kalu, Md. Paigambar and Noor Alam were arrested by NIA.

These 2 accused arrested on August 3, 2018, were produced before the NIA Special Court, Kochi on last Saturday and NIA got four day transit remand.

The Patna Special NIA court granted 15 days remand when they were produced on transit remand.

The investigation so far revealed that a group of terrorists belonging to Jamat-ul-Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) operating under Boma Mizan alias Kausar and Mustafizur Rehman alias Tuhin, both Bangladeshi national and have earlier been chargesheeted as absconders in Burdwan Blast Case, RC-03/2014/NIA/DLI) hatched a conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in Bodhgaya, Bihar.

“The arrested accused Abdul Karim alias Chhota at the time of incident was present at the hideout at Jehanabad and was part of the gang and was involved in preparation of IED, conspiracy and planning’, the release said.

Other arrested accused Mustafizur Rehman was a chargesheeted accused of Burdwan blast case and is also a close associate of Boma.

He was part of the conspiracy, collected material for IED and conducted recce of the place of incident Kalchakra Maidan, Bodh Gaya.

“A total of 5 persons have been arrested in this case so far. Further investigation is underway”, NIA added in statement.
