Nationwide Doctor’s strike: “PROVIDE US WITH SAFETY” IMA

Healthcare services in India Is in jeopardy since  Monday as the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) is set to hold a nationwide doctors’ strike in solidarity with the protesting doctors in Kolkata,West Bengal.The IMA has decided to withdraw all non-essential services on Monday (June 17). IMA members will also stage a dharna at its headquarters in New Delhi. Emergency and casualty services, however, will continue to function. AIIMS Delhi has decided to stay away from the protests to take care of the patients.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to meet the protesting doctors today at 3 pm in Nabana, West Bengal. The doctors have been asked in a letter to reach the venue by 2:30 pm for a meeting with Mamata Banerjee. However, they said the meeting would have to be “in the full view of the media” and not “behind closed doors”.

Healthcare violence has its origin in high expectations, lack of infrastructure and inadequate human resources. Issues of medical profession involving doctor-patient relationship, effective communication regarding the nature of illness and professional counselling play a part as well,” said Dr. R.V. Asokan, member of the Association.

Ahmedabad civil hospital doctors also join the Nationwide strike taking to protest Leaving Patients  in apathetic situation.Doctors are holding the strike in civil hospital demanding to provide them with safety from the Relatives of the dead patients.
