Minister rubbishes report of terrorist safe havens in Pakistan

Pakistan Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan has stressed that no terrorist safe havens and Haqqani network exist in the country.

In an interview, he said that Pakistan has played a key role in eliminating terrorism from the country and now no sanctuaries of terrorists on its soil exist, a Radio Pakistan report said.
The Minister said the country is desirous of peaceful, stable, and democratic Afghanistan.

Trump administration announced in January that it would suspend nearly all security aid to Pakistan, an across-the-board freeze that is the most tangible sign yet of Washington’s frustration with the country’s refusal to crack down on terrorist networks operating there.

The decision, which could affect as much as $1.3 billion in annual aid, came three days after President Trump said on twitter hat Pakistan had “given us nothing but lies & deceit” and accused it of providing “safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan.”
