KXIP mentor and former India opener Virender Sehwag informed about the development in the team’s official Facebook page.
Commenting on his appointment, the Punjab’s new skipper said in a statement,”I feel honoured to be trusted with the responsibility of leading such a talented bunch of cricketers. I am confident of bringing out the best out of teammates. This is indeed a proud moment for me.”
“There is no additional pressure on me as such. I first led my state side in first class cricket when I was 21. I have done it in the past and I am sure that I will enjoy the challenge,” added Ashwin.
Significantly, Ashwin, who has been out from India’s ODI and T20 team since a long time, was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for eight long years. After CSK’s suspension from the league, Ashwin had moved to Rising Pune Supergiants.
