Instead of going on ‘Upwaas’, PM should say his ‘Man Ki Baat’ on rising crimes against women: Congress

Terming the Nationwide fast by the BJP MPs as a ‘farce’, the Congress on Thursday said that instead of going on a fast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should make his stand clear on the sharp increase in crimes against women in the country

Talking to reporters here , AICC senior spokesperson Kapil Sibal said,’the people of the country are not interested in knowing about his ‘Upwas’ (Fast) but his stand on the increasing crime against women in the country. The ‘Beti Bachao’ slogan of the Prime Minister is now proving to be ‘Beti Chupao’.’

Expressing his concern over the rape incidents in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Sibal said,’the PM is not worried about the country. People of the country want to know his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ about the burning issues facing the country.’

Questioning the silence of the Prime Minister on the Kathua and Unnao rape incidents, he said,’Prime Minister talks about Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. However, unlike the PM, Mahatma Gandhi was never silent on such incidents. He (Mahatma Gandhi) used to meet families of the victims. In direct contrast, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is meeting the families of the accused .’

On the fast of the PM, Mr Sibal said,’for whom. are you fasting. It is your party that did not allow Parliament to function, It is you who are fasting even as the country is burning.’ On the Unnao rape case, Mr Sibal alleged that accused MLA was being shielded by the state government.

‘The police is working under the directions of the state government. Even after completing all the processes the accused MLA is still roaming free.’

Alleging that there has been a sharp rise in crime against women in states ruled by the BJP, Mr Sibal said,’Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, all of which are BJP ruled states, are at the top of the crime ladder.

Earlier, In a post on social media, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said, ‘A Farcical Fast’ by a ‘Fascist BJP’! Post rhetoric, jumlas, diversions, headline management, TV studio warfare; Will PM/BJP answer when will they start ‘Jan Ki Baat’?’

Describing the fast as a ‘farce’, AICC spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said,’This is not a fast only rubbish. Why is the Modi government silent on Kathua and Unnao rape. Why is it silent on farmers distress and on rising unemployment among youth. Why is it running away from debate on burning issues in Parliament?’ PM along with BJP chief Amit Shah and other party MPS are on a day long fast on Thursday to protest the disruption of Parliament by the Congress.
