India, Nepal focus on resetting their ties as Oli begins visit on Friday

Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli begins his three-day visit to India on Friday amid hopes on both the sides of bridging their recent differences and resetting their ties once again to restore full measure of mutual trust and confidence.

While announcing Mr. Oli’s visit to India, his first after getting re-elected as the Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation, External Affairs Ministry had stated that both India and Nepal enjoy age-old, special ties of friendship and cooperation. “The upcoming visit will provide and opportunity to the two sides to review wide-ranging cooperative partnership and to progress it further for the benefit of the two peoples,’’ the MEA statement had noted.

Besides his official engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Nepalese premier will also call on the President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu. Several Union Ministers are also scheduled to call on him. Mr. Oli will also visit G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He will also engage with the business community as well as Nepalese diaspora in India.
