Welcoming the Chilean Parliamentary Delegation led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile, Mr Fidel Espinoza in Parliament Library Building on Tuesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said India and Chile are united by common values and respect for democracy.
Ms Mahajan noted that India and Chile share commonality of views on various multilateral issues. Both sides have cooperated with each other in the United Nations and other international organisations.
She thanked Chile for the support for India’s candidate Judge Dalveer Bhandari for re-election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). She also appreciated Chile’s support for India’s candidature for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Observing that India attaches importance to parliamentary exchanges, Ms Mahajan said the exchanges contribute immensely towards strengthening of people to people ties and bilateral relations.
She hoped that the ongoing visit of the Chilean Delegation would further boost cooperation between the two Parliaments.
She also thanked Mr Espinoza and India-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group for sponsoring the first ever celebration of the International Day of Yoga in the Chilean Parliament in June 2017.
Ms Mahajan opined that there are tremendous opportunities for expanding cooperation between India and Chile in diverse sectors, including the Trade and Commerce. She hoped that the implementation of the Expanded India-Chile Preferential Trade Agreement would facilitate enhancing of bilateral trade.
