Impending Pongal leave, Transport staff calls off strike

Thanks to the High Court intervention, the Transport workers unions in Tamil Nadu called off their week-long strike on Thursday night after the court referred the matter to an arbitration committee.

Passing an interim order referring the wage dispute between the state government and the workers of state-owned transport corporation, a special bench headed by Justice S Manikumar appointed former judge High Court Judge Justice E Padmanabhan as the arbitrator to solve the issue, which was welcomed by Trade Unions.

After the high court’s order, CITU leader A Soundararajan said, “We are ready to accept wage revision as per 2.44 multiplication factor, as proposed by the government, as a temporary relief.”

After the court said that act on conscience that the staff of the transport department and also the public celebrate the pongal festival happily, the Unions after elaborate discussions, decided to call off their strike.
