Exams postponed in Kashmir, Educational institutions remain closed

All university and board examinations, which were scheduled to be held on Monday, have been postponed in the Kashmir valley, where three militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in Anantnag early this morning.

A spokesman for the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) said all examinations which were scheduled to be held today have been postponed. The university had earlier postponed a number of papers last week. He said next date of postponed examinations will be announced later.

Similarly, the Kashmir University (KU) and the Board of School Education (BOSE) have also postponed all scheduled examinations today. A KU spokesperson said teaching in the university will also remain suspended.

All educational institutions remained closed as a precautionary measure here and majority parts of south Kashmir, where three militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in Anantnag in the wee hours of Monday.

However, educational institution are open in north Kashmir, where life is also normal with business and other activities going on smoothly. The Kashmir University (KU), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and Board of School Education (BOSE) have postponed all scheduled examinations today.

All schools, Higher Secondary Schools (HSS), colleges and universities will remain closed today as a precautionary measure, the district administration announced. The educational institutions, particularly upto middle classes, opened only on Saturday after winter vacations. Though the schools were scheduled to reopen on last Monday after vacations, but due to security reasons, the government announced the closure of all educational institutions in the valley, including Srinagar.

The educational institutions were closed following the death of six people, including two militants of Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) in an encounter in Shopian on March 4 night. This followed by two strike called by separatists against these killings and shifting of detenues to outside the valley jails.

Educational institutions also remained closed today in most parts of south Kashmir, where schools and colleges were to reopen for the first time from today after winter vacations. However, the district administration Shopian had already announced closure of educational institutions in some areas today also as precautionary measure.
