Dr. Harsha Vardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India while releasing the book on Environment as Capsule mentions that while you are working as minister or secretary it is very hard to take any policy decision. There is a big concern on issues around environment.
When I joined the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change what I observed the whole Ministry was involved around reforming various environmental laws. What I strongly believe is that those who are involved in environment can create a societal movement and how quickly we can actually make people realize that apart from other responsibilities they should have a green-social responsibility, Dr. Vardhan mentioned.
He appreciated a lot about the book and this environment book shows Dr. S.K.Nanda’s deep commitment towards environment of India.
Dr. S.K.Nanda, IAS, Former Additional Chief Secretary, Govt, of Gujarat, mentioned about few basic fundamentals of preservation- a) Conserving water b) Cleaning beaches c) Rain water harvesting d) Conserving energy e) Planting trees f) By starting recycling practices g) By not throwing trash/garbage everywhere g) Using public transport to commute h) Donating things that are not useful to us instead of throwing them away.
Dr. Nanda further tried to connect the nature with such as sea, mountain, flying birds and vegetation on the slopes of the hills. What will happen in the environment if each of these elements starts missing from the ecological system? If no bird flies over sea or there is no vegetation on slopes of hills the painter will always draw a denuded hill. This is the role that ‘Nature’ plays and its band for us unwittingly.
This book release attended by many dignitaries such as member of parliaments from Gujarat, secretaries of various Ministries of Government of India and state governments.
