Delhi: Police personnels and Govt officials to pay double fine if they found violating traffic rules

After the implementation of the new Motor Vehicle (MV) Act (Amended) in the whole country, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a circular from the joint commissioner’s office saying police personnels and government employees will have to be pay double the fines, if found guilty of violating traffic rules on Wednesday.

Meenu Chaudhary, joint commissioner of police asked police personnels to be careful while driving personal or official vehicles.

“In case of jumping a stop signal or not wearing a seat belt or a helmet will be liable to pay double the amount of compound violations issued by traffic cops,” she said.

The initiative has been taken under Section 210-B of the MV Act, 1988. The traffic police amended it on April 22, 2013 and then amended it again on August 7, 2014.

“It has been specified that any authority that is empowered to enforce the provision of this Act shall, if commits offence under this Act, he/she should be liable to pay twice the penalty corresponding to that offence,” Chaudhary said in the circular.
