Delhi Court discharges AAP MLA in six cases of extortion

A Delhi Court on Tuesday passed an order of discharge in favour of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Manoj Kumar in the six cases of extortion filed against him in August 2015.

The Police had registered about 17 FIR against Manoj Kumar’s Personal Assistant Deepak Sharma on the complaint of ration shop owners of East Delhi in 2015. It was alleged that Sharma was extorting Rs 2000 from ration shop owners on every month. It was alleged that Sharma also threatened to cancel the license of the ration shop owners if they refused to pay.

The MLA was also made an accused in some of the FIRs and the court had framed charges against co-accused Sharma. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal after hearing the plea on behalf of both the sides discharged MLA Kumar due to lack of evidence.
