Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Tuesday said a monthly meeting of the senior leaders of the party on Tuesday deliberated in detail about the severe shortage of drinking water in Delhi, the Save Constitution Campaign, and the merciless killing of a Dalit youth in Gujarat with merciless beatings.
The meeting, held at the DPCC office, here, also passed resolutions congratulating Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the success in the formation of a Congress-JD(S) coalition Government in Karnataka to save democracy and condemning the merciless beating to death of a Dalit youth in Rajkot in Gujarat.
Addressing the mediapersons after the meeting, Mr Maken said, ”the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi has failed on all fronts and during the tenure of the AAP Government, the shortage of drinking water has become a severe problem.”
He said the drinking water situation in Delhi has become so bad that the water and tanker mafia have been selling water at inflated rates, and people have lost their lives in clashes with the tanker mafia.
Mr Maken said the Congress party will hold protests at the block and Pradesh levels against the shortage of water so as to ensure that the people of Delhi get regular supply of drinking water without any hitch.
He said at the direction of the Congress president, a Save Constitution Campaign will be carried out throughout the country for one year. The Congress leader said the manner in which the Modi Government at the Centre and the BJP-ruled States tinker with the Constitution drafted by Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar, it was clearly a deliberate attempt to weaken the Constitution. The Delhi Congress will hold public meetings at 19 Assembly constituencies to expose the Modi Government’s bid to weaken the Constitution.
Mr Maken said the Pradesh Congress will constitute committees for the Save Constitution Campaign. He said on the one hand, the Congress Governments have been taking strong steps for the upliftment of the Dalits while on the other hand, under the rule of the Modi Government at the Centre and the BJP-ruled States, neither the Dalits are being given protection, nor are any measures being initiated to uplift them.
Mr Maken said, ” the law framed by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for the protection of the Dalits is being weakened under BJP’s Modi Government”.
He said the meeting of the senior leaders also condemned the merciless beating of a Dalit youth at Rajkot on May 21 leading to his death.”Such atrocities against Dalits have been happening in Gujarat regularly, and the manner in which the downtrodden people were given protection during the Congress regime, has become a thing of the past under the BJP rule, as Dalits have been suffering severe persecution in BJP-ruled States, in a bid to tear apart the social fabric of the country,” the Congress leader said.
Mr Maken said today’s meeting also discussed the AAP Government’s Rs 571 crore CCTV camera installation ‘scam’ in Delhi.
He said a Congress delegation under him met Delhi Lt Governor on Monday and gave him a memorandum and relevant papers regarding the CCTV camera installation scam, demanding that a CBI enquiry be held on the ‘scam’.
Mr Maken said if the Lt Governor does not order an enquiry into the CCTV camera installation ‘scam’, then the Delhi Congress will directly write to the CBI to seek a probe in the CCTV camera ‘scam’.
He said the truth is that the Lt Governor takes some action to show off without taking them to logical conclusions.
