Corruption, communal disharmony will affect India’s future: Ex-CJI

Even after decades of struggle, the country could not get rid of corruption in public life, said former Chief Justice Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar on Thursday.

Delivering the 24th Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lecture here, Justice Khehar pointed out that former Prime Minister Shastri started the fight against corruption in 1960s. But scams and scandals still exist in the system.

”We have seen people like Harshad Mehta, Ketan Parekh and scams such as Satyam scam, oil for food, JVG, Cash for vote and Vypam, in which many people died during the trial and scandals like Gujarat Snoopgate… and allegations on the purchase of helicopters, trucks, guns, ships, submarines… ,” he said.

Highlighting the protest organised by Gandhian Anna Hazare against corruption, Justice Khehar said ”There was such a huge movement by civil society.
