China on Monday welcomed the joint participation of armed forces personnel from India and Pakistan in the ongoing counter-terrorism drill of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Russia and said peace between India and Pakistan was crucial for “development of the world”.
“Both Pakistan and India are important countries in South Asia. A stable Pakistan-India relationship is of great significance to the peace and stability of the region and the peace and development of the world at large,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in Beijing during the briefing.
“We sincerely hope that the two countries can strengthen dialogue and cooperation between them and within such multilateral mechanisms as the SCO, improve their relations and jointly uphold regional peace and stability,” the spokesperson said.
Both Pakistan and India took part in the anti-terror exercise called “Peace Mission-2018” along with forces from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The exercise is being carried out as part of the SCO charter for international counterinsurgency or counter-terrorism environment.
The joint exercise – that begun on August 22 – is being conducted under the aegis of the Military Commission of Russia and it will continue till August 29.
