Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati had alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls where Congress that has been left out of the proposed. After this Congress has sent out a stern message to the two UP politicians, saying avoiding the party would be a “dangerous mistake”.
Mayawati’s BSP and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party have decided to contest the 2019 elections together in alliance. The main purpose for the alliance, they say, is to stop the BJP from scoring a landslide win in the state.
Akhilesh recently said, there is only two seats for the Congress to contest the polls on — Amethi and Rae Bareli, which have been Nehru-Gandhi family’s bastion.’
Rajiv Bakshi, Congress media coordinator, said the Congress is the largest Opposition party in the country and so it cannot be ignored from alliances of like-minded parties to stop the NDA government from forming the government at the centre. “We alone have 45 seats in the Lok Sabha and it is any day many more than the regional players… a ‘mahagathbandhan’ in the Lok Sabha elections need to be built around the party having a national face,” Mr Bakshi was quoted by leading news agency.
He said his party should not be underestimated, claiming the Congress had “presence” and “support base” in Uttar Pradesh.
