Asia Cup : India upsets Bangladesh

Rohit Sharma unbeaten 83 runs and Ravinder Jadeja four wicket took India towards victory as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Asia cup here on Friday.

India won the match without any difficulty by scoring 174 runs in 36.2 overs. This is India’s third consecutive victory in the tournament. India now will face Pakistan and Afghanistan in Super-4.

Bangladesh needs to win against Pakistan and Afghanistan to reach finals, which seems very difficult.

Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a solid start in the beginning and scored 61-runs in 14.2 overs. Shikhar hit four fours and a six and scored 40 runs 0ff 47 balls. Rohit added 45 runs for the second wicket with Ambati Rayudu (13).

Meanwhile, Rohit played aggressively and took India to 106, when Rayudu was sent to pavilion by Rubel Hossain. Rayudu departed for 13 runs. India score was 106 for two wickets in 24 overs.

Earlier, Playing after 14 months in ODIs, Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets. Bangladesh started poorly as their both openers departed for 16 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India its first breakthrough when he dismissed Liton Das for seven off 16 balls. Then Jasprit Bumrah took the second wicket of Nazmul Hossain Shanto for seven.

Bangladesh kept loosing their wickets and later their score was 101/7 in 33.2 overs. Then, skipper Mashrafe Mortaza (26) and Mehidy Hasan (42) played a fighting innings to notch up a 67-run eighth wicket stand for Bangladesh.

Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, while Bhuvneshwar and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to 173. Mehedi Hasan was the top-scorer from the Bangladeshi side with 42 runs off 50 balls hitting two sixes and as many boundaries.
