Approval of over 100 judges, cleared for SC and HCs, put on hold by Govt: Rahul

Charging the Narendra Modi government with ‘demonetisation judiciary’, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that approval of over 100 judges, cleared for the Supreme Court and various High Courts, had been put on hold by the government.

In a tweet, Mr Gandhi claimed that among the 100 judges whose name was cleared for the Supreme court was Justice K M Joseph, who overturned the President’s rule in Uttarakhand in 2016.

”Justice K M Joseph, overturned President’s rule in Uttarakhand in 2016. When his name was proposed for the Supreme Court, Modi ji‘s ego was hurt.  ”Approval of over 100 judges, cleared for the Supreme Court and various High Courts are now on hold. #JudiciaryDemonetised,” Mr Gandhi said in a tweet.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Gandhi had attacked the NDA government on huge pendency of cases in various courts and huge vacancies of judges in High Courts and lower courts. In a post on social media, Mr Gandhi, took a dig at Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on huge vacancies in High Courts and lower courts, saying, ”A staggering 400 High Court and 6,000 Lower Court judges not appointed, while Law Minister preoccupied peddling fake news.”

”Legal system collapsing under Pending Cases: Supreme Court 55,000 + High Court 37 Lakh + Lower Courts 2.6 Crore + Yet, a staggering 400 High Court and 6,000 Lower Court judges not appointed, while Law Minister preoccupied peddling fake news,” he posted on Twitter.
