Ahmedabad airport has begun building new parking bays at the domestic terminal on priority and a few near the international terminal to address the rush of additional non-scheduled flights.
The airport will get 19 new aircraft parking bays and most of them will be ready by Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019 in January. With flight movement going up by 52 per centin less than six years at the airport, the aircraft parking here is packed to full capacity.
The airport has 33 parking bays, eight connected to aero bridges — four each on international and domestic terminal – while the rest are remote bays. The airport, which is seeing a steady increase in domestic and international passengers, used to handle about 180 flight movements daily till 2016 and this has increased to around 260 till October this year.
These parking bays will connect to the new airport terminal that we are planning. We plan to complete part of the work by January 2019.” Ahmedabad airport has 13 night parking bays for scheduled flight operators from the city airport.
