Reeling from the record high 38.7°C temperature one day ago, Ahmedabad citizen were got happy after sudden heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm, hit various parts of the city on Saturday evening. Maximum rainfall was registered in the central zone with 2 inches.
Devotees carrying Lord Ganesha idols broke into impromptu dance after rain hits Ahmedabad. The day was cloudy, with some parts experiencing brief spell of rain in the afternoon. Three incidents of fallen trees were registered near LG Hospital and in Gujarat University and Amraiwadi areas where an old bus stop had fallen on the road. In a few areas, including Satellite and Bopal, streetlights stopped working. However, they were soon repaired by the AMC staff.
Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) officials said that they received 15 calls for minor accidents and tree falls due to the downpour. The city has not had sufficient monsoon activity this season. According to the IMD, Gujarat was 28% rain deficient. In Saurashtra and Kutch, the deficit is 32%.
