Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is pressing for full statehood for both Delhi and Puducherry.
”Whatever may be the Congress stand on Delhi crisis, we stand for full statehood of both Delhi n Puducherry because both Delhi and Puducherry belong to us and are part of our country. Democracy and people’s will should prevail everywhere in the country,” Mr Kejriwal said in a tweet.
The AAP government had recently called a four-day special session of the Delhi Assembly to discuss the issue of full statehood to Delhi, which is a union territory like Puducherry.
The Government Resolution (Under Rule-90) on statehood of Delhi, which was moved by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on June 6 in the Assembly, was unanimously adopted by the House on the last day of the special session.
During his speech in the assembly on the resolution of statehood of Delhi, Mr Kejriwal had said earlier both the BJP and Congress had promised of full statehood in their poll manifestos but both the parties have taken a U-turn on the issue now.
