Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha has expressed hope that the state run-telecom PSU BSNL will consolidate its revenue by tapping new business opportunities like Internet telephony, Smart city, Virtual network operators and deployment of 4G.
“BSNL can play significant role in Smart City projects, NFS and FTTH (Fibre To The Home). Works worth Rs 150 Crore has been allotted to BSNL under smart city projects, which can be taken as an advantage”, the Minister added.
He said the BSNL is faced with some serious challenges, but it also has some very unique opportunities before it. “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going!” Mr Sinha said.
He said BSNL has many bigger opportunities in near future other than mobile telephony. Many tenders have been finalized for 2G, 3G and 4G services. Market share of BSNL has been improved from 7.6 per cent to 9.43 per cent which is commendable.
He was speaking at the concluding day of the First Head of Circle’s Conference for the year 2018-19 here on Friday. The conference was attended by all heads of BSNL circle offices and senior officials of the BSNL.
The Telecom Minister exhorted the BSNL officials to complete all the government projects in time so that the nation is benefitted as well as BSNL gets required revenue.
He also asked the BSNL field officers to focus on better customer service to change the negative customer perception about the public telecom operator.
Addressing the function Telecom Secretary Ms. Aruna Sundararajan underlined the need of BSNL to be aggressive and innovative.
“BSNL is a key partner in BharatNet implementation and has increased market share as well. Smart thinking and smart implementation at this stage will be an edge for BSNL”, Ms Sundararajan added.
