Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday held talks with visiting Swiss President Alain Berset on strengthening economic and development cooperation between the two countries.
Berset’s four-day visit is the first by a Swiss head of the state since Bern recognised Bangladesh in 1972.
Officials said Berset arrived here on Sunday to “express solidarity” with Bangladesh, whihc has ben severely affected by the Rohingiya crisis in neighboring Myanmar.
On Tuesday, Berset will visit the Kutupalong camp in the Cox’s Bazar, where Switzerland provides humanitarian aid to refugees from the Rohingya ethnic group who have fled Myanmar.
The Swiss embassy in a statement earlier said their Berset’s visit is also aimed at establishing “closer bilateral relations”.
