A seven-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat, today arrived here on a two-day visit to Nagaland.
On his arrival, Mr Rawat launched the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) photo exhibition and released the SVEEP booklet. This was launched by ECI in 2010 with an aim to attracting greater participation of electors for stronger democracy. The team is holding a series of meeting with the State Election, Administration and Security officials on the law and order situation of the state and also the entire poll preparedness, ensuring free and fair election.
Rawat inspected the poster and appreciated the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland for his maiden effort to create awareness among the voters. The photos and posters of the exhibition to create awareness about various systems of elections as per guidelines of the ECI through variety of posters in Kohima, which were also distributed to all Returning Officers of districts and Sub-divisions of the state.
Later, the ECI team met the leaders of the political parties of Nagaland in Kohima and heard their various difficulties and reminded the guidelines of ECI during the electioneering and asked to obey the rules.
The team of ECI officials from Election Commission of India (ECI) team would review the poll preparedness in Nagaland for the forth coming election with the State Election officials led by Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Singh. The team will State Police Nodal officers and will have review meeting with all the DEOs, SPs, Commissioner, IG of CRPF and DIG ranges.
Tomorrow the team of ECI will meet the income Tax Department, Excise, RBI and Narcotics officials of both State and Central. The team will also meet Nagaland Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and other senior officials of the state government tomorrow before leaving for Meghalaya tomorrow.
The Chief Election Commissioner is accompanied by Election Commissioners Sunil Arora, Ashok Lavasa, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain, Director General Dilip Sharma, Direndra Ojha, and Principal Secretary Narendra N. Butolia.
