Indian Women’s Hockey team on Wednesday defeated China 3-1 to register its second consecutive win in the Asian Champions Trophy tournament.
Vandana Katariya scored a goal in 4th and 11th minutes while Gurjit Kaur converted a penalty corner to ensure India’s comfortable win over eighth-ranked China. China’s lone goal came in the 15th minute.
It was hard team work between Lilima Minz, Navjot Kaur and Vandana that ensured India were put ahead of China by a goal in the fourth minute.
India team seemed to be in attacking mode right from the start. While a constructive defence against a strong Chinese squad was imperative, However, India managed to push for an early goal.
Vandana, who smashed the second goal and pushed India to a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The world’s eighth team made their attack strong after two goals, and in the 15th minute Wen Dan scored the field goal by scoring a 2-1 goal. Earlier, China had also won four penalty corners, but goalkeeper Savita failed to defend them.
While the second quarter saw India keep up the momentum and show excellent defensive skills that kept China from equalising, the third quarter saw Savita showcase good goalkeeping skills to keep China from converting their fifth penalty corner.
“In front of China’s tough team, we kept our defense strong and did not let them return. The starting edge is always important. I am happy with the way we played. It was a complete team effort. “India will play against Malaysia in the next match on 17th May’, Vadnana said after the two consecutive win.
